PHOENIX -- At approximately 12:30 a.m. two Phoenix Police officers responded to a trespassing call at an abandoned trailer home near 32nd and Van Buren streets.  Upon approaching the trailer, a suspect opened fire on the officers, seriously wounding one of the officers multiple times.

Additional police units arrived a short time later and quickly extracted the wounded officer and his partner, transporting them to a nearby hospital.

The suspect barricaded himself in the abandoned trailer, which was surrounded by police. Other homes in the neighborhood were evacuated.

After a five hour standoff with police, the suspect surrendered and was placed under arrest.

The wounded officer underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.
