NOGALES, Ariz. -- A Mexican national was arrested Tuesday after allegedly trying to smuggle 42 pounds of methamphetamine into Arizona.
Authorities said a Jeep driven by 18-year-old Jose Ramon Montes De Oca-Siraytare was inspected at the Mariposa border crossing. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers reportedly found 27 packages of meth in the quarter panels of the SUV.
The drugs have an estimated value of $654,000.
The driver was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations and the vehicle and drugs were seized.
