PHOENIX -- If you're headed into downtown or central Phoenix next week, there are some parking changes you need to know about.

Starting Monday, new parking meter times go into effect.

For years enforcement has been Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with weekends and holidays off.

Starting Monday, enforcement will be from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekends and holidays included.

This change is ahead of the bigger changes to the rates.

In November, rates will range from 50 cents to $4 per hour. The higher prices typically during big concerts or sporting events.

Until now most rates were $1.50 straight across the board.

Why the changes?

The City Council approved the changes to help with the more than $37 million budget deficit.
