AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Specialty kids care is now closer to those who live in the West Valley.
“When your child is sick, you feel a responsibility to make them feel better and you can't when it's cancer, you have to trust the doctors and the nurses and you're trusting them with your baby's life,” said Valley mom Kristin Shinohara who traveled to Phoenix Children's Hospital for specialized treatment. “After one month my son's cancer was in remission, so I have full faith in them.”
Even more good news, Shinohara won't have to travel all that way anymore to make hospital visits.
The first of three phases is done for the new Phoenix Children's Hospital Southwest Valley Center. On Monday, a new urgent and pediatric clinic will open its doors in Avondale.
“We were pretty much a downtown focus and it's very hard, you know, when you're coming downtown the I-10 freeway every morning for chemotherapy, it's brutal and so we wanted to get out to the community,” said Bob Meyer with Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
The next two phases incorporate a new, two story medical building and then eventually a full service children's hospital.
