GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A West Valley family is grateful to be together this holiday after their 2-year-old son was rescued from their swimming pool.
Autumn Head almost lost her son, Brycen, two weeks ago when firefighters pulled him from the bottom of the pool.
"When they showed up there was no heartbeat," she said. "There was no breathing. They were working on him and working on him, and it was a long time before they got a slight pulse or anything and they never gave up on my son."
Glendale, Peoria and Sun City West firefighters were honored Wednesday for saving the boy's life.
Brycen was treated at Phoenix Children's Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
"We knew ... he was going to fight and be here for us still," Head said. "We would have never imagined that he would as perfect as he is now. We are very blessed."
Brycen's doctor is reminding people to stay vigilant when it comes to kids near pools, even during the winter.
"It was by far the scariest thing I had ever seen," Head said.
