PHOENIX -- Heidi Powell, wife of fitness pro and frequent "Good Morning! Arizona" guest Chris Powell, credits her nanny with saving her baby son's life when the pair was carjacked.

It happened Friday.

Kaitlyn McGrath was sitting in Powell's car with little Cash when a man knocked on the window and threatened to kill them if they didn't get of the car. McGrath grabbed Cash and escaped as the man got into the car.

"I just knew that I had to get Cash out," she said.

Thanks to her quick thinking, neither she nor Cash was injured.

"I couldn't help but be anything by grateful," Powell said. "How easy would it have been for her to just jump out, scared for her life, and forget about Cash?"

"She is a rock star hero!" tweeted Chris Powell, praising McGrath.

While the suspect got away with Powell's car, police were able to catch up with him quickly. OnStar disabled Powell's vehicle while an iPad tracking app led officers right to the suspect. He was arrested within 30 minutes.

Powell and McGrath shared their harrowing ordeal with 3TV's Scott Pasmore Monday morning.

Powell said people need to be aware of what is happening around them and not let themselves be distracted.

"We spend so much of our time on our iPhones these days that we're not aware of our surroundings," she said.

If you do find yourself in a potentially bad situation like a carjacking, Powell's advice is to give the perpetrator whatever he or she wants.

"Our lives are more important than anything," Powell said. "Get out of the way and call 911."
