PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- A Yavapai County man who allegedly tried to steal a vehicle in the nude died Sunday morning.
Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a campground at Lynx Lake after the owner of a Jeep called to say a naked man “on drugs and out of his mind” had stolen his vehicle.
A few minutes after contacting deputies, the victim reported hearing his Jeep crash nearby.
Deputies heard a man screaming when they arrived on scene, and located 27-year-old Calvin Forrey near the Jeep.
Forrey’s pit bull attacked a deputy as he approached the scene and was subsequently shot and killed.
Deputies were eventually able to subdue Forrey with the help of a stun gun. He was transported to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center where he died Sunday morning.
The Yavapai County medical examiner is expected to complete an autopsy by the end of this week.
Following Friday's incident, detectives discovered that Forrey had had contact with Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies on June 25 at his Prescott home.
A family member had called deputies to the residence because of Forrey’s disorderly behavior and refusal to leave the house.
Deputies went on to speak with Forrey, who admitted that he had a prior addiction to bath salts. He cooperated with deputies and wasn’t arrested.
It is not known if Forrey was under the influence of drugs at the time of Friday's incident.
