PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- Prescott Valley police questioned and released a man after his mother and brother were shot to death on Thursday.
Police spokesman Sgt. Brandon Bonney said officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 3600 block of Robert Road at about 2:45 p.m. The caller said that there were two victims.
They were identified as Elizabeth Wood, 72, of Prescott, and her 44-year-old son, Edward James Wood, of Prescott Valley.
Investigators recovered multiple firearms on scene and detained Daniel Wood, 28, for questioning.
Daniel told investigators that the three of them were cleaning an apartment at Edward's duplex and had a disagreement.
Bonney said it appears that Edward went to his apartment in the duplex and allegedly retrieved two handguns.
Daniel reported that he was in a bedroom when his brother returned. He said he heard several gunshots in the living room area where Edward allegedly shot and killed his mother.
Shortly after that, there was a confrontation between the brothers, which ended with Daniel shooting Edward several times, killing him.
Daniel then called 911.
"While this investigation is ongoing and we have not definitively determined the events that transpired, we want to stress to the public that we are not seeking any other suspects," Bonney said in a news release.
A medical examination of the deceased as well as forensic review of the evidence will be conducted then the case will be turned over to the Yavapai County Attorney's Office for review.
