PHOENIX (AP) -- Authorities say more than 580 people were arrested in Arizona for DUI-related offenses over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
The Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety released a statewide report of arrests made by several DUI task forces from Aug. 28 to Monday.
According to the report, law enforcement arrested 582 people - up from 503 during the Labor Day weekend last year.
Authorities say 521 of the arrests were misdemeanor and 174 of them were for extreme DUI this year.
There also were 103 DUI arrests because of suspected drug use and 29 DUI arrests of people under the age of 21.
The agency's task forces are comprised of nearly 2,000 law enforcement personnel from police, highway patrol, sheriff's offices and volunteers.
