PHOENIX (AP) -- The 22-year-old Arizona mother of a 2-year-old girl found wandering around a neighborhood has been released from custody while she faces a child abuse charge.

Nichole Hockett appeared in court on Wednesday and was ordered released on her own recognizance.

Hockett said she doesn't want her daughter placed in foster care and that she wants her parents to have custody.

Child Protective Services took custody of the girl after she was found early Tuesday morning in Anthem north of Phoenix. Hockett and her daughter were staying at a friend's home.

Authorities say Hockett had previous involvement with CPS.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says the 2-year-old was previously put in the care of Hockett's parents due to drug use and neglect by Hockett. That arrangement ended earlier this year.
