Poll:
Do you think people should donate money to Shanesha Taylor?

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A local mom is making national headlines and sparking national debate after she left her children, ages 2 and 6 months, inside her car while on a job interview.

Scottsdale police arrested Shanesha Taylor on March 20 and booked her on charges of child abuse.

A fundraising website started by a New Jersey woman on Taylor’s behalf has reached over $77,000 in donations as of April 1.

While Taylor is not yet speaking on camera, in a statement to 3TV she said:

“Please relay my extreme gratitude to everyone. I am grateful for the love, support and many well wishes. They keep my spirits high in this stressful time.”

She also said, “I absolutely would like to thank those in the community and around the world for their support. I have received so much love.”

However, other people believe the mom shouldn't’ be rewarded for committing a crime. One person posted a comment on Taylor’s site saying: "You never ever leave children unattended in a car. Between 30 to 40 children die of heatstroke each year.”

According to a probable cause statement by Scottsdale police, the temperature the day of the incident was 82 degrees; the estimated temperature inside the car was over 100 degrees. Police also say "both children were sweating profusely and appeared to be in distress."

Taylor, who’s unemployed, told officers she didn’t have a baby sitter available to watch her kids during her job interview.

Taylor told 3TV over email she’s meeting with a public relations specialist later this week and wants to make sure she promotes “the positive that has come out of this situation but not cause any harm to my pending case.”

Her fundraising website says a Valley church helped post her bail. Taylor wrote 3TV that she received her first deposit from her fundraising site on Tuesday “and will be moving into a home Friday.”
