MESA, Ariz. -- A cardiologist accused of sexually abusing female patients has admitted to his wrongdoing.
Dr. Richard Jay Lewis entered a guilty plea Thursday to 18 counts of aggravated assault. Lewis is due back in court on June 14 to be sentenced.
Lewis was arrested by Mesa Police in June of 2009 after two women claimed they had been inappropriately touched during medical exams.
The following month, authorities said the number of victims had reached 18. At the time, Lewis was facing one count of sexual assault, 46 counts of sexual abuse, and two counts of assault.
The incidents occurred between October 2008 and June 2009.
