MESA, Ariz. -- Officers from the Mesa Police Department served 14 search warrants around the Valley Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into the illegal sale of prescription drugs.
The Mesa Police Department's Street Crimes Unit has been working on the case for 12 months, according to a spokesman for the Mesa Police Department.
The investigation focused on people who either own or operate several Los 3 Amigos and El Renacer Yerberia Shops.
The drugs were manufactured in Mexico.
Police served warrants in Mesa, Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, Chandler and Tolleson. Seven locations were residences and 7 were various shops.
So far, 12 people have been arrested in connection with this alleged criminal enterprise. In addition, several residences, businesses, vehicles, and bank accounts have been seized as evidence.
The operation was conducted with assistance from police departments in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, and Chandler and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency and U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
