PHOENIX (AP) -- Republican John McComish and Democrat Steve Farley won key state Senate races that were among a half-dozen regarded as competitive between the parties in Tuesday's general election.
McComish, an incumbent, defeated Democratic challenger Janie Hydrick to win re-election from Republican-leaning Legislative District 18 in Phoenix and Chandler.
Farley, a state representative, beat Republican Tyler Mott in the race for an open Senate seat from Democratic-leaning Legislative District 9 in Tucson.
With those results and others, Democrats have won at least 11 of the 30 Senate seats, up from nine now. Several Senate races remain undecided.
