MAYER, Ariz. – One of the victims of Saturday's helicopter crash north of Phoenix has been identified as a Scottsdale woman.

Yavapai County authorities have confirmed that Brynne Smith, 25, was killed when the helicopter crashed nose first along Interstate 17 near Mayer.

Dwight D'Evelyn with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said the medical examiner is still working to identify the second victim.

A witness told 3TV that he heard the Vietnam War-era Huey helicopter making strange sounds before it crashed.

Several Mayer Fire Department engines and trucks responded to the crash, which caused a brush fire about 50 feet in diameter.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.

Mayer is about 70 miles north of Phoenix.
