SELIGMAN, Ariz. -- A California couple have been arrested in northern Arizona for allegedly transporting a marijuana-growing operation in a rental truck.
Le Nguyen, 46, and his girlfriend, Kathy Nguyen, 42, were taken into custody Tuesday morning. Both were booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges including transportation of marijuana for sales, possession of marijuana for sales and marijuana production.
According to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, a K-9 deputy stopped the truck on eastbound Interstate 40 near Seligman for lane change violations. A drug-detection dog alerted on the vehicle.
Sheriff's office spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said deputies searched the cargo area and located 100 marijuana plants, more than 8 pounds of packaged marijuana and boxes of equipment used for an indoor marijuana-growing operation.
The supplies included commercial-grade light hoods, special grow lights, fans, insulation, trays and irrigation equipment.
D'Evelyn said the processed marijuana was found in an ice chest and sealed inside foam insluation in an apparent attempt to conceal the odor.
