CHANDLER, Ariz. – A man wearing a hard hat and a reflective traffic vest robbed a Chandler bank on Thursday, according to authorities.

The suspect entered the Chase Bank at Queen Creek and Alma School roads at approximately 5:20 p.m. and approached the teller counter.

He asked if they accepted an American Express card, which was folded in half so the teller could not see the name on it.

When he was told that the bank did not accept the card, the suspect told the teller it was a robbery.

Authorities said the suspect repeatedly asked for more money and said he had a gun. He reportedly gestured to his pants and made his thumb and finger into a gun, but no weapon was displayed.

The teller gave the suspect a known amount of cash and he fled the bank.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his mid- to late 30s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 160 pounds, unshaven with a thin build, short dark brown or black hair and a mustache. He spoke English with a noticeable Hispanic accent. Police were told that he was soft-spoken.

The suspect was wearing a white construction hard hat, prescription glasses, blue jeans and a tan long-sleeve shirt with a yellow reflective traffic vest over it. He also had a black bandanna around his neck and a gold chair or watch on his right wrist.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the FBI at 623-466-1999.
