PHOENIX -- The man wanted in connection with a homicide last month and the assault on his girlfriend and abduction of their 7-month-old son on Monday night has been arrested.
Reyes Holguin, 21, was tracked down in the area of Northern and 35th avenues by Phoenix police detectives and the U.S. Marshals Service, according to Sgt. Steve Martos with the Phoenix Police Department.
Holguin was taken into custody without incident. He was booked for second-degree murder and additional charges.
PHOENIX -- Police say the man who kidnapped his baby son Monday night is wanted in connection with a homicide investigation. The 7-month-old baby was found Tuesday morning and is safe with family. His father, Reyes Holguin, is still on the loose.
Police say Holguin, 21, took the child from a home in the area of 20th Avenue and Sherman Street, between Grant Street and Buckeye Road in central Phoenix. It happened just before 9 p.m.
"There was some assault that occurred between the father and the mother of this child prior to the child being taken," Sgt. Steve Martos with the Phoenix Police Department said shortly after the kidnapping.
According to Martos, the mother was injured and the father fled from the area in a white, or silver or gray 2003 Nissan Altima.
Witnesses gave police a partial Arizona license plate for the Altima of B3838.
Martos said Tuesday morning that the baby had been left with family but that Holguin was still on the run.
Investigators released few details about Holguin, saying only that he has a criminal history. In a tweet, Sgt, Steve Martos said Holguin was wanted for homicide.
"We've actually been looking for this particular individual, Reyes Holguin, for a couple of weeks now," Martos told 3TV's Jill Galus. "He was involved in a homicide that took place on April 27. He's wanted in connection with that homicide."
Police identified the victim in April 27 homicide as Juan Ortiz Canales. He was shot to death.
At this point, investigators do not know what precipitated Monday's incident, nor do they know where Holguin initially took his baby.
If you know where Holguin might be or have seen the car he is believed to be driving, call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness at either 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or 1-800-343-TIPS (8477). Spanish speakers may call 480-TESTIGO (837-8446).
Authorities did not issue an Amber Alert in this case because they did not have an exact license plate for the vehicle.
"This meets most of the criteria other than the specific plate for an Amber Alert to be issued we have to have a specific plate in order to alert the community. In this case we don't have that, at least not yet. Should that change that certainly could be a possibility," Martos explained.
