PEORIA, Ariz. -- A Peoria man faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of his brother.
Police were called to an apartment complex on 85th Avenue south of Grand Avenue around 1 p.m. Saturday for a reported shooting.
Officers found Matthew Wasar, 42, lying on the ground outside an apartment building. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to court documents, Christopher Michael Wasar, 39, was angry that his ex-wife had been having sex with his brother in exchange for drugs.
Christopher Wasar reportedly forced his way into the apartment where his brother was staying and held the resident at gunpoint. He left when he learned his brother wasn't there.
He found Matthew Wasar in a parked car. The two began arguing and Matthew was shot.
Christopher Wasar tried to flee the scene but was taken into custody. He told police that he shot his brother one time after Matthew charged at him with a knife.
Witnesses and Jessica Wasar said Matthew had a knife in his hand but did not threaten his brother with it.
Christopher Wasar also faces burglary and kidnapping charges.
