PHOENIX -- Phoenix police have made an arrest in a deadly shooting that took place over the weekend. It all happened right in front of a small child.

According to Officer James Holmes of the Phoenix Police Department, officers arrested J'Jmar Washington, 31, on suspicion of second-degree murder. Investigators have not yet said what led them to Washington.

Police were called to a home Sunday morning and found a black Lexus with the front door open and a man lying on the street. A 2-year-old child was found inside the car.

Police said Carl D. Scott, 29, had been shot in the stomach. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died.

Police said Scott had driven to the area with his son in the back seat of his car and was involved in an altercation with several black males. At some point during the argument, Scott was shot.

The child was not injured.

Police are looking at surveillance video from a nearby Chevron station where the shooters may have stopped.

It's not clear if the victim knew the shooters nor is it known what sparked the altercation.
