TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe police have arrested a 21-year-old man they say shot another man during an altercation in the Mill Avenue area early Sunday morning.
Adolfo Christian Jimenez, of Litchfield Park, was charged with one count of aggravated assault and two counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm.
Officers responded to the area of Ninth Street and Mill Avenue just after 3 a.m. after gunshots were heard.
Police spokesman Lt. Michael Pooley said officers were told someone pulled out a gun during a fight and began firing, and then fled the scene.
Shortly after, a Tempe resident called police to report that a man was moaning in his front yard near Maple and University Drive.
The man was found suffering from a gunshot wound and transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. His name has not been released.
Police were told by people involved that the man who was shot had been following and verbally harassing three females.
According to court documents, the man was arguing with the women and hit one of them on the side of her head, knocking her to the ground, then ran from the scene.
Jimenez and four others followed the man and hit him with skateboards, according to court paperwork.
Police said Jimenez fired two rounds from a gun. One struck the man in the chest and the other hit a parked vehicle.
The victim is still in the hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
