GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a Glendale convenience store.
It happened shortly before 2 a.m. Monday at an ampm store with an Arco gas station in the area of 99th and Glendale avenues, just west of the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway, the Westgate Entertainment District and Jobing.com Arena.
The suspect pulled up to a pump, filled his car and then went into the store.
According to police, the victim was a 26-year-old employee who had apparently confronted the man who had just walked out of the store after apparently paying for his gas.
"At some point during the verbal altercation, the suspect produced a gun and shot the employee several times," Officer Tracy Breeden said in a news release.
The employee, who has been identified as Daniel Scott White, of Glendale, was standing in the doorway of the store when he was shot multiple times.
It's not clear what led up to the confrontation between White and the suspect.
According to Breeden, the suspect, who was gone by the time officers arrived on the scene, is a white male adult, average height, weighing 180 to 200 pounds, wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.
That suspect reportedly left the scene in an older blue, four-door sedan. License plate information was not immediately available.
Glendale police have not confirmed that their suspect is the same man who died after a chase and gunbattle that took place more than an hour later on the U.S. 60 in Tempe. Sgt. Mike Pooley of the Tempe Police Department, which is handling that investigation, said in a news release that the vehicle at the center of that incident matched the description of the suspect vehicle in the Glendale homicide.
Anyone with information on White's death is asked to call the Glendale Police Department at 623-930-3000 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
