PHOENIX (AP) -- A man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his role in a shooting that left another suspect dead outside a northwest Phoenix nightclub.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 20-year-old Jose Luis Chacon was sentenced Wednesday for second-degree murder.

An off-duty Phoenix police officer working security at the club reported seeing several suspects trying to steal a small refrigerator from his pickup truck on March 30, 2013.

It led to a parking lot shootout involving the suspects, the officer and a nightclub employee.

Authorities say the suspects' getaway driver died at the scene.

They say Chacon admitted to shooting a rifle during the incident. The officer and the nightclub employee weren't injured.

Court records show Chacon originally faced a charge of first-degree murder during the commission of a crime.
