Man robs Phoenix business while armed with assault rifle

PHOENIX -- Police are searching for a man who robbed a Family Dollar store in Phoenix while armed with an assault rifle.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, the man walked into the store on Van Buren Street near 35th Avenue, held two female employees at gunpoint, and demanded cash.

An employee opened the register and gave cash to the suspect, who then ran out of the store and drove away in a red or maroon four-door sedan.

The robber is described as a Hispanic man between 20 and 25 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weighing 170 pounds. He had a thin mustache, and was wearing a gray hoodie and carrying a black AK-47 assault rifle.
