SURPRISE, Ariz. -- A man rescued his mother from her burning mobile home near Dysart Road and Grand Avenue in Surprise Tuesday morning.
At about 8 a.m., the woman called her son and told him her home was on fire. He lives about a block away and rushed over to help.
The woman was inside looking for her dog when she became trapped. The son went inside and pulled her from the burning home.
Firefighters responded to the home and began dousing the flames with water to keep it from spreading to nearby structures.
At one point, ammunition was going off in the home. Firefighters heard about 10 small pops, according to Battalion Chief Autry Cheatham with the Surprise Fire Department.
No one was injured by the ammunition.
The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation, but she is expected to be OK.
The home is a total loss.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
