PHOENIX -- A man has been sentenced to natural life in prison for fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend with a screwdriver in 2009.
Dzevad Selimovic, 43, was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to first-degree murder.
Authorities said Selimovic and Emina Redza, 27, dated for three months and lived together in Binghampton, N.Y., before she moved to Phoenix in August 2009.
Redza was stabbed at her Phoenix apartment while Selimovic was visiting from New York. Police said Redza turned her back during a conversation with Selimovic and he stabbed her multiple times.
Selimovic then fled the scene in Redza's car. He later pulled over in front of a Phoenix police patrol car, told the officer about the stabbing and was arrested.
