PHOENIX -- A 28-year-old Phoenix man has been sentenced to four years in prison on convictions stemming from a collision between his car and a pedicab in Scottsdale last year.

Joseph Paul Spano had pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault and one count of endangerment.

Several other counts were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Spano's car slammed into the back of the pedicab near Scottsdale Road and MacDonald Drive at about 3 a.m. on Jan. 4, 2013.

Cody Clark and Michael Tysver, of Great Bend, Kan., were severely injured in the crash.

The men were in town for the Fiesta Bowl. The pedicab driver told police that he had picked them up at a downtown Scottsdale bar and was taking them to their hotel.

The pedicab driver received minor injuries and Spano was not injured in the wreck.
