PHOENIX -- A 35-year-old man is facing a first-degree murder charge for a shooting in Phoenix Monday night.

According to police, Larry Williams, 42, and a witness were standing on the sidewalk near Adams and 19th streets at about 9 p.m. when Garrick Solomon approached from behind.

Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said Solomon began yelling at Williams and fired multiple shots from a handgun then fled the scene.

Officers on a traffic stop in the area responded to the scene and found Williams lying on the sidewalk.

Police locked down the area as they searched for the gunman.

Officers arrested Williams nearby.

Crump said Williams and Solomon knew each other.
