PHOENIX -- A man was arrested Thursday in connection with a high-speed chase and collision that injured a young boy during the evening rush hour.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety told 3TV that officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on Rodolpho Nunez but he would not pull over.

They pursued the vehicle for several miles until it T-boned an SUV carrying a family in the intersection of 51st Avenue and Cactus Road.

A young boy was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

"He was complaining his back was hurting," said the boy's grandfather, Jim Morrison. "I freaked out. I mean, I've been in a few accidents myself. I know how much they can do to you."

The boy is expected to be OK.

The driver ran from the vehicle but was tackled by an off-duty police officer. On-duty law enforcement personnel then surrounded the man and reportedly used a stun gun to subdue him.

Nunez faces several charges including felony flight, aggravated assault and reckless driving.

"We're going to do further investigations into some of the potential crimes that might have been committed prior to the traffic stop," said DPS Officer Carrick Cook.
