PHOENIX -- A man was airlifted from a trail in North Phoenix on Sunday after taking a bad spill on his mountain bike.

Fire crews responded to the trail near 16th Avenue and Copperhead Trail, north of Happy Valley Road.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Tony Mure said crews were able to locate the 48-year-old man by tracking his cellphone.

He was transported to a hospital but is expected to be OK.

Mure reminded people to wear a helmet when mountain biking and bring water and a cellphone.
