SNOWFLAKE, Ariz. -- A 21-year-old man from Taylor, Ariz., died after falling approximately 140 feet into the Silver Creek Canyon in an area north of Snowflake.
Michael John Hunsaker, his sister and a friend were standing close to the edge of the canyon and throwing rocks down to the canyon floor at approximately 5:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Navajo County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said Hunsaker leaned down to pick up a large rock and it broke, which caused him to lose his balance and fall into the canyon.
The Pinetop Fire Department Rope Rescue Team was called and recovered the victim's body. The body was taken to the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
Investigators are waiting for toxicology reports.
The case remains under investigation, but investigators said they have no evidence to show any foul play was involved.
