GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies have arrested several employees at a Glendale construction company for allegedly being in the country illegally and using false identification.

Deputies served a search warrant at United Construction Group Thursday morning after receiving information from an employee that several employees were illegal immigrants.

After searching through employment records, deputies suspected that 16 of the company's 126 employees were using false identification to gain employment.

"Illegal immigration continues to be a serious problem here in Arizona and the United States, especially those here illegally stealing people's identity," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio. "These individuals indirectly open up employee opportunities for businesses and help increase employment for those in the country legally."

Thursday's search of the United Construction Group is the 67th criminal employment operation undertaken by the MCSO.

A total of 647 suspects have been arrested during the operations, 460 of which were apprehended for identity theft. All of the suspects arrested for identity theft were eventually found to have been in the country illegally.
