EAST VALLEY, Ariz. -- A bus strike could leave East Valley commuters stranded come Thursday.

While bus routes in Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa and Tempe are operating as usual and will continue to do so through Wednesday, Valley Metro is advising riders who rely on bus service to make alternate plans -- just in case.

At this point, the discussion is among the union membership as they prepare to vote on the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

First Transit and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) have been in negotiations  to define their collective bargaining agreement since the first of the year.

A strike could happen as soon as Thursday.

Valley Metro is keeping people apprised to the situation on ValleyMetro.org, as well as on Facebook and Twitter. People also can call 602-253-5000.

If there is a strike, some 57,000 passengers will be affected.

Routes impacted are: FLASH, MERCURY, VENUS, EARTH, MARS, JUPITER, BUZZ, LINK—Main St., LINK—Arizona Ave., 30, 40, 45, 48, 56, 61, 62, 65, 66, 72, 77, 81, 96, 104, 108, 112, 120, 128, 136, 156, 184, 511, 514, 520, 521, 522, 531, 533, 535, 541 and 542.

There are routes traveling into Phoenix (30, 45, 48, 56, 61, 72, 77, 108, 156, 514, 520, 521, 522, 531, 533, 535, 541, 542) and Scottsdale (EARTH, 72, 81, 511, 514) that would also be affected should a strike occur.
