MESA -- It was long and cold wait standing in line early Monday morning at Comfort Dental, but the payout for everyone was definitely worth it. They all got free dental work.
“I have a tooth that's broken, I need to get it taken care of,” said Jessica Tuomisto, who showed up Sunday afternoon to start waiting in line. “I live in the San Tan Valley, so it's far for me to get anywhere and money, so this is a Christmas present to myself.”
Dentists from Comfort Dental are calling this "Care Day Monday” and it's a dental tradition that's been going on for almost 30 years. It’s become especially important since state budget cuts have all but eliminated dental insurance for AHCCCS (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System) patients.
“It’s great to see everybody in line," said Dr. Abe Miller with Comfort Dental. "I live in Mesa and I’m happy to serve my community."
This event isn't just an Arizona tradition. The Comfort Dental clinics in nine other states are also offering up free dental work the day before Christmas.
Dentists throughout the country hoped to help more than 4,500 people on Monday.
“I'm loving it,” said Marlon Askins, who told me he hadn’t been to a dentist in two years. He said he saw us talking about this free event on "Good Morning! Arizona" and decided to wait in line. “Cleaning, just a cleaning,” said Askins.
