PHOENIX -- If you're on a quest for that perfect pair of jeans for fall, look no further than Lawless Denim & Co. The new store at Cityscape in Phoenix offers custom-made jeans.
The store's location will serve dual purposes, with one side being used as a retail space where leather goods, boots, and locally made bow ties will be for sale. On the other side will be a manufacturing shop, where owner Roman Acevedo and Lawless Denim employees will produce 100 percent handmade and custom fitted jeans, making it the first and only denim manufacturer in the state.
"Just trying to find a pair of jeans that fits right; I think that's a challenge for all of us," says Roman Acevedo, owner of Lawless Denim & Co. "Here, you get to be your own designer."
Shoppers can choose from 25 different types of denim, 10 different styles, and a variety of button finishes. The finished product will run about $200. Ready-made jeans will also be available for slightly less.
It takes about eight days to make a custom pair of jeans. But you can customize almost everything in the jean, from the weight of your denim to the color of the thread.
"Some of the finest denims in the world,' says Acevedo. "You can choose your pocket liner, your button finish, your thread color and your style. And if we don't have a style you like, you're welcome to bring them in and we'll duplicate them."
Lawless Denim uses selvedge denim, which means the material was made on pre-World War II looms and produced in small batches. The company sources the denim from both American and Japanese denim mills. The staff works with vintage sewing machines and brass hardware to stay true to the classic American method of jean-making.
Lawless Denim & Co is located at 50 West Jefferson, in Cityscape in Phoenix.
