PHOENIX -- From the big boxes to the boutiques, cash registers are ringing across the Valley. Monday night, lines of cars filled the parking lot at Tempe Marketplace, where we found shoppers who waited until the last minute to cross off their Christmas lists.

The procrastinator's crunch is a Christmas gift in sales for local businesses like Frances on Camelback.

Sara Matlin of Frances says local customers come in to find unique gifts. "Everything. A lot of our local jewelry. People really want jewelry that's special," said Matlin.

Kimber Lanning with Local First AZ says like the big boxes, independent stores hope for big sales. "We are hearing great things out there. People are up and independent businesses we talked to are anywhere from 1.5 to 4 percent up," said Lanning.
