PHOENIX -- The holidays are tough for Nia and Breelle Lugo. The two women are missing their big sister, Alexis Carbajal. She was 17 when she was murdered in 2008.

"She was there for me, she was my backbone," Nia said. "She had my back and when she passed away the summer before my junior year I felt like I had nobody."

It was June of 2008 when Carbajal was at a house party in South Phoenix when someone started shooting.

Younger sister Breelle was just 12 when Carbajal died.

"I know that everyone says I remind them of her," Breelle said. "Yesterday my mom called me her name and I was just like, 'What.' She didn't change it or say, "Oh, sorry.' It just happened."

With the passing of time, the sisters hoped a killer would be caught.

They're still waiting for that day.

"I feel like as a police department they should get to the bottom of it because they're still out there," Nia said. "They could hurt other people. They're not caring as much as we would want them to care about."

Steve Martos with the Phoenix Police Department wasn't available to give us information on Carbajal's case because of the holiday.

Her sisters just hope someone will hear their story and come forward with a tip to help investigators break what they're calling a cold case.

"If it was their family or their sister who got hurt I'm pretty sure they would want someone to come forward and say, 'I did it,'" Nia said.

Call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 if you have any information about the shooting.
