PHOENIX -- The officer who survived after being shot on Monday is out of the hospital.

Detective Albert J. Casados was released Wednesday morning and is expected to make a full recovery, Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garcia said in a news conference on Wednesday afternoon.

He was shot once in his right side.

Chief Garcia said Det. Casados is 37 years old. He is married with children. He has been with the Phoenix Police Department for nine years and has been a member of the Major Offenders Bureau for about three years.

"That's a quick transition from patrol to that type of assignment. That gives you an idea of the caliber of detective he is," said Chief Garcia. "He's an outstanding police officer and we're honored to have him with us still."

Det. Casados was involved in a shootout on Monday at 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road. Detective John Hobbs was killed in that gun battle along with the suspect, William Thornton.

"When you have a tragedy of this magnitude, to have your officers come together and pull together as a family is the only one thing along with the community support that really gets us through these very, very difficult times in law enforcement," said Chief Garcia.

The funeral for Detective Hobbs will be on Monday, March 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Church of the Valley at 7007 W. Happy Valley Road in Peoria, Ariz. There will also be a visitation on Sunday, March 9 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Surprise Funeral Care at 16063 W. Bell Road in Surprise, Ariz.
