PHOENIX – Police arrested a 58-year-old man after finding more than 650 marijuana plants in two Phoenix buildings.

An officer was on patrol Saturday night when he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from a building near McDowell Road and 25th Avenue, according to police spokesman Officer James Holmes.

Police contacted William Becker at the location. Becker claimed he was renting the building to a third party.

Police served a search warrant on the building and discovered a full marijuana-growing operation with more than 300 marijuana plants.

Another search warrant was served at a building in the area of Thomas Road and 30th Avenue. Police found a second operation with more than 350 plants.

The street value of both seizures was estimated at $1.3 million.

Holmes said the investigation indicates that Becker is responsible for both locations. He was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on charges related to cultivating and possessing marijuana for sale.
