PHOENIX -- Investigators from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office are searching for a suspect who shot a horse in the head.
On Saturday, detectives from Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Animal Crimes Investigation Unit responded to the desert area of 243rd Avenue and Patton Road in reference to a horse that had been shot in the head.
The horse is presumed to be in her late 20s to early 30s.
Despite her injury, she was alert and sifting the ground for food. The horse is now in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office but remains in serious condition and it is unknown at this time if she will survive.
The horse is under the care of inmates and veterinarian crew from Durango Equine.
