PHOENIX -- Phoenix police took dozens of weapons off the street with a gun buy-back event Saturday.

People were allowed to exchange their guns for a $50 gift card, no questions asked.

According to Officer Luis Samudio of the Phoenix Police Department, a total of 80 guns were collected at three locations.

The buy0back event coincided with a crime-suppression operation over the past week. Just before the Saturday event, a neighborhood rally to help curb gun violence was held at Cielito Park.

Youth leaders, safety advocates and police spoke out against gun violence.

Parents also received free gun locks to help protect their kids at home.
