PHOENIX -- Two female pit bulls are getting a second chance at life after they were found abandoned at a Phoenix dog park Friday morning.
Volunteers from a local animal rescue who were exercising some of their dogs at Washington Park near Glendale and 21st avenues noticed the pit bulls. No owners were in the area.
They networked them on Facebook and Brittany Winkelman with RePaw dog rescue stepped in to help.
Bethany Animal Hospital offered to board the dogs until they can be placed with a foster home.
The dogs are 2 or 3 years old and have had multiple litters.
"It's really unfortunate their owner probably abandoned them because they were just done breeding them," Winkelman said.
She described the pit bulls as "happy-go-lucky" and said they look to be in pretty good health.
Once they are given a clean bill of health, the dogs will be put up for adoption. For information contact RePaw at www.facebook.com/repawaz or email email@example.com.
