PHOENIX (AP) -- A Texas woman accused of getting her 9-year-old granddaughter to plant drugs in her son-in-law's truck in Arizona pleaded guilty Thursday to a reduced charge of attempting to involve a child in a drug offense.
Investigators say 59-year-old SanJuanita Carabajal of Ferris, Texas, hatched the plot in hopes that police would discover the drugs so that she could get custody of the child.
The girl's father had custody of the child.
Police in Gilbert say Carabajal gave the child packets containing 4 grams of cocaine in October and told the girl to show one of her teachers a bag of cocaine and to leave the remaining drugs inside her father's truck.
Defense attorney Melinda Kovacs declined to comment after Carabajal made the guilty plea.
Sentencing is set for May 16.
