Map: Attempted sexual assaults
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Glendale Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a suspect believed to be involved in two sexual assaults at the same apartment complex in the past week.
The incidents occurred at Arroyo Villas near Maryland and 47th avenues.
Police said a 20-year-old woman was able to fight off the suspect after he attempted to sexually assault her just before 1 a.m. on Aug. 20.
The woman had left her apartment to walk a friend out to his vehicle and was heading back when the suspect grabbed her and pulled her down into the gravel landscaping.
She escaped and was able to immediately notify her friend then call police.
The suspect fled on foot through the complex and was not located.
Three days later, a 23-year-old woman who had just gotten off work arrived at her apartment parking lot just before 5:30 a.m. Police said as she walked to her outside stairs, an unknown male suspect grabbed her from behind and threw her down onto the gravel landscaping.
The suspect attempted to sexually assault her, but police said she screamed and two males came out of their apartment and chased off the suspect, who fled through the complex on foot.
The women provided similar descriptions of the suspect. He is described as a Hispanic or Indian male, 19 to 25 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, 160 to 180 pounds with short black hair, possibly with short spikes on top.
Police have released two composite sketches of the suspect.
Detectives do not have any leads at this time and are seeking the public's help identifying the suspect or suspects.
