GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say a Glendale man is dead after a crash involving an on-duty Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Glendale police say the deputy was driving on 59th Avenue in an unmarked vehicle at about 1 p.m. Monday.

Police have identified the man who died as 63-year-old John Edward Harding.

They say it appears Harding turned his car in front of the deputy's vehicle.

Police say 20-year MCSO veteran Sean Pearce was taken to a hospital, but the deputy's injuries aren't considered life-threatening.

Both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles.

Police say speed and impairment don't appear to be factors in the crash.
