PHOENIX -- A Gilbert woman who admitted to faking cancer to collect donations has been sentenced to prison.

On Tuesday morning, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge John Ditsworth sentenced Kelly Ann Wasko to 18 months in prison for theft as part of a plea agreement.

She also received three years probation for attempted theft and seven years probation for fraudulent schemes. The probation terms are to be served concurrently.

Wasko, 42, claimed that she was in need of a bone marrow transplant, which her insurance wouldn't cover. She started a Facebook page asking for help paying for the procedure.

Wasko collected more than $12,000, which included a $1,000 donation from her adult daughter.

She was arrested in December and originally pleaded not guilty in the case.
