GILBERT, Ariz. -- A Gilbert man is in mourning after his three children, mother and pregnant sister were killed in a terrible crash on Interstate 10.
"We just went camping and that's Kayla, my 9-year-old, and my little one, Brianna, 7. And uh this is my son, Tyler, he loved to play baseball," said Larry Curley, clinging to pictures of his loved ones. "This was less than a week ago when he caught his first fish."
Curley is living every parent's worst nightmare.
"I mean I’m not just burying one of them, I’m burying my whole family," Curley said.
Curley's three children, ages 12, 9 and 7, were all killed in a horrific crash Saturday, along with his mom, Shelly Blackmore, and pregnant sister, Danielle Blackmore. Only his father, Tracy Blackmore, survived.
"They went on a family trip down to Tucson and they were coming back the same day," Curley said.
According to a spokesman with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the family was heading home when their Ford F-250 pickup truck suffered a blowout and went across the median, colliding with a semitruck. Then a third vehicle hit the pickup truck.
"You know, my dad always works on the truck, he had brand-new tires on that vehicle," Curley said.
"You know, we are a very safe family and they always wore seat belts but because of that high impact I was told they died instantly," he said.
Curley said his mother survived for a few hours until she found out her grandchildren were gone.
"She was a fighter but she wasn't going to leave the babies alone," he said.
Now this heartbroken man just prays his father heals and reminds other parents out there that life is short.
"Hug your kids every day," he said.
