PHOENIX (AP) -- Part of a Phoenix-area freeway will be closed midday Monday for the funeral procession for a Phoenix police officer fatally shot a week ago.

Detective John Hobbs was fatally shot March 3 by a suspect who himself was fatally shot by police.

Hobbs' funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Christ's Church of the Valley in Peoria.

After the service, the eastbound Loop 101 freeway in Glendale and Phoenix will be closed between 75th Avenue and Seventh Street at approximately 11:30 a.m. for Hobbs' procession.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says the closed freeway section will be reopened as soon as possible after the procession has passed.

The 43-year-old Hobbs was a 21-year police veteran and a member of a unit geared at apprehending violent criminals.
