PHOENIX -- Four people were arrested Thursday night after more than $785,000 worth of marijuana and several thousand dollars in cash were found inside a Valley home.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Task Force located approximately 1,571 pounds of pot after conducting a search at a home in the 4200 block of N. 63rd Drive.
MCSO said deputies also found more than $47,000 in cash sealed in vacuum bags and hidden inside two gallon-sized Prestone antifreeze containers.
Following their search, deputies arrested Osmar Cortez, 18; Miguel Sanchez, 23; Lizabeth Medrano, 23; and Yadira Medrano, 19.
All four suspects were booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on felony drug charges.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said he’s concerned that Thursday’s arrests are a sign of a bigger problem involving drugs and immigration.
“We’re finding more and more illegal drugs smuggled into the United States by illegal aliens to warrant a crime suppression operation aimed at drugs and illegal immigration in the near future,” said Arpaio.
