PHOENIX – Flooding made traveling on Phoenix-area highways difficult for motorists on Tuesday.

Heavy rain and flooding have closed portions of Loop 303 and state Route 74 in north Phoenix, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Loop 303 is closed from lake Pleasant Road to Interstate 17. SR74 is closed in both directions from lake Pleasant Road to Archery Drive, about three miles west of I-17.

ADOT is urging drivers to delay travel in that area due to the flooding and mudslides.

It is unknown when these roads will reopen.

ADOT closed a portion of I-17 North at Happy Valley Road Tuesday morning because flood waters were covering the roadway. All lanes reopened at about 1:30 p.m.

ADOT spokesman Doug Nintzel said flood waters blocked the right side of northbound I-17 at Dixileta Drive for part of the day.

Carefree Highway was closed west of I-17 due to the flooding.

I-17 South remained open throughout the day.

I-17 North was closed from Loop 303 to Table Mesa during during the late morning. One lane was still blocked Tuesday afternoon.
